ALSfit

At first, I thought this commercial was touching, I thought it was reaching out for awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and possibly another campaign to raise money for the disease. What is this disease? Well to simply put it, it's why you all dumped a bucket of ice on your head in the summer of 2014, and why Stephen Hawking sits in a wheelchair all day. However; that's not really what this Fitbit ad is about. This ad is about a couple of runners, well a runner and his son.

Team Hoyt is a father son duo empowering individuals to strive for greatness and beat the physical boundaries our bodies have set for us using teamwork and perseverance. Fitbit, a company that created a watch to keep track of physical movement and time, saw this father son duo and thought that they would be great as spokespeople. This ad is part of the company's "___fit" campaign which reaches out to everyone saying Fitbit is good for all situations, and it is connected into all situation because no matter what, ___fit works with what you are striving for.

This commercial directly states that this ad is for your "lovefit." Though the use of slow emotional piano music, inspiring speeches, and many pictures showing the moments of triumph between these two, we get a little feeling inside. We feel inspired to do, we feel like Fitbit is a great company for what they have done here. Yet, what did the company do? In the ad the only time we see any company device is towards the end of the ad when he's running, yet no where did the ad, or the people even say that they are correlated in any way. We see the shirt he wears and the wheelchair the son is in and neither say Fitbit. Also, the Fitbit never created love, it's a father and his son love already existed. The company just pushed its way next to them to appear as the creator of this duo. So yes, I'm inspired to go be the arms and legs of a physically disabled man or woman, but why do I need a Fitbit to do so?
